School Site Council

School site council (SSC) INFORMATIONAL MEETING INVITATION

The School Site Council (SSC) is an elected group of teachers, parents, classified employees, and students who work with the principal to develop, review, and evaluate funds for school improvement programs.

The idea behind the creation of School Site Councils in the 1970s was that those most closely involved with the schools and students on a day-to-day basis could often make the best decisions about how schools needed to improve. School Site Council operations vary from school to school, but in general the SSC deals more with school policy and budgets than the school PTO does. The SSC is charged with making decisions about how state categorical funds will be spent.
